Glen Dearth was born on April 9, 1955, in Bernhausen, Germany, to the late James and Jeanne Dearth. Raised in a modest military family, Glen was a self-starter and worked hard to get where he was in his business and personal life. Glen graduated from Dover High School in 1973. He umpired youth baseball to put himself through college and graduated Cum Laude from Ohio University, Class of 1976.
He founded Morning View Care Centers in 1979 and Bennington Glen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 1999. An active and engaged leader, Glen held the following positions with OHCA: Past President (1993-1995); Vice President (1991-1993); Treasurer (1989-1991); OHCA Executive Committee (1989-1997); Chairman of the Legislative Committee, member of the Facility Standards Committee, member of the Political Action Committee, and Chairman of the ICF/MR Task Force.
He was appointed by House Speaker Vern Rife as a member of the Reimbursement Study Committee charged with developing a new prospective reimbursement system. Governors Dick Celeste and George Voinovich appointed Glen to two, 3-year terms as a member of the Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. For 12 years, he was a member of The Ohio State University Faculty for the Core of Knowledge for Administrators in Training. He was also a member of the Long Term Care Insurance Task Force, appointed by Speaker Joann Davidson.
In his spare time, Glen enjoyed golf, deep sea fishing, and boating and was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes, the Buckeye Marching Band, the Cleveland Browns, and the Indians. He, as an avid reader of motivational authors, enjoyed watching Robert Schuller and the Hour of Prayer and was a huge music fan, most notably Harry Chapin. In addition to his passion for long-term care, one of Glen’s proudest accomplishments was a benefit concert he coordinated in Dover, where Harry Chapin performed.
